We congratulate Dr Stephen de Looze, Head of Medical Writing and Document Management, on his election to the post of Education Officer of the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) for the period 2009---2011. In this role, he is Chairman of the Education Committee and a member of the EMWA Executive Committee, responsible for organizing and developing EMWA’s educational activities.

Stephen is a founder member of EMWA (1990) and a prolific EMWA workshop leader. He has been a longstanding member of the EMWA Education Committee, including a previous terms as Education Officer from 2001 to 2003 and 2007 to 2009, when he made a major contribution to establishing EMWA’s professional development program (EPDP). In 2005, he
was instrumental in creating the advanced curriculum program for the EPDP.

For his services to EMWA, Stephen was made an honorary lifetime fellow of the association by being awarded the Nick Thompson Fellowship during the Ljubljana conference.

Stephen is a respected educator and author on medical writing issues and is well-known internationally in the industry. We are confident that his continous contribution in this area will further strengthen the medical writing profession in Europe.

We wish him every success in his new appointment and congratulate him on the award of the Nick Thompson Fellowship.
